John Stamos is facing backlash on social media for wearing a bald cap to support his “Full House” co-star Dave Coulier who shaved his head amid his stage 3 cancer battle.
Stamos, 61, shared three Instagram photos Monday that featured him wearing his bald cap as he spent time with Coulier, 65.
In the second photo, Stamos shaved his fellow actor’s head. The third image showed Stamos kissing Coulier’s head alongside Coulier’s wife Melissa.
“Nothing like throwing on a bald cap and flexing some Photoshop skills to show some love and solidarity with my bro @dcoulier,” Stamos wrote in his caption.
“You’re handling this with so much strength and positivity—it’s inspiring,” the “General Hospital” alum continued. “I know you’re going to get through this, and I’m proud to stand with you every step of the way. I love you.”
Stamos praised Coulier’s wife at the end of his caption, writing, “@melissacoulier is the most wonderfulest – your true life line!”
Despite his kind gesture, Stamos was slammed by his Instagram followers for wearing the bald cap as a way of supporting his close friend.
“So he’s not really supporting him. He’s posing for a photo op,” one follower wrote.
“Seriously just couldn’t shave your head bro ?? lol,” another person said.
A third follower commented, “Is this really appropriate? A bald cap is showing solidarity? You can just take your cap off and be ‘normal’ again. When people take this route they actually shave their head. I can’t help but feel like you’re using Dave’s diagnosis as a way to make yourself more likable.”
“What a shallow gesture! Couldn’t even cut your hair off for your friend,” a different person said.
“Hate to be that person but this is more insulting by putting on a bald cap then not shaving ur head,” read another comment.
Fans went after Stamos on X (formerly Twitter) as well.
“This seems performative as f–k just shave your head for f–ks sake,” somebody said on the Elon Musk-owned platform.
“Intentions are good but kinda weird na?” another person tweeted.
The Post has reached out to Stamos’ rep for comment.
Stamos showed immediate support for Coulier after the latter actor announced last week that he has “a very aggressive form of cancer,” stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
Sharing photos of the pair from over the years, Stamos wrote on Instagram, “My brother from day 1. Love you @dcoulier and I’ll be by your side through it all.”
Coulier revealed on “Today” that he was diagnosed with cancer five weeks ago. He learned of his diagnosis after suffering a bad cold and noticing swelling in his groin area.
The father of one is in the midst of doing chemo and is expected to finish his treatment by February.
“The first round was pretty intense because you don’t know what to expect,” Coulier said.
“It’s been a bit of a roller coaster,” he added. “There (are) days where I feel unbelievable. Then there’s other days where … I’m just going to lay down and let this be what it’s going to be.”
