Richard Karn looks and feels better than ever.
The “Home Improvement” alum, 68, followed a strict diet alongside his wife of almost 40 years, Tudi Roche, which led to him lose 30 pounds.
“We did this weight loss thing where we [ate] four ounces of meat, four ounces of vegetables, no carbs or not as much carbs. We did that for six weeks. It really helped,” Karn told Fox News Digital in an interview published Monday.
“It kind of realigned what you need,” the actor continued. “You don’t pile your plate as high anymore, because you don’t need it. After six weeks, I think your body and your mind realizes that helped.”
He also said that “moderation” is crucial to staying healthy. “If you can, don’t have five desserts,” he said. “Have a bite of one.”
Karn, who played Al Borland on “Home Improvement,” said he couldn’t avoid food temptations during the eight years he filmed the ’90s sitcom.
“All of a sudden, you had food on the set. You could just eat whatever you wanted. You were going out to events where they give you food,” he recalled.
Karn added: “At some point, you kind of have to stop and go, ‘You know I really could eat all of this, but I shouldn’t. I can’t, and look at me, I’m 10 pounds more than I want to be.’ And everything else is just kind of in moderation.”
Since losing 30 pounds, Karn said that while he’s “kind of evened out where I want to be” weight wise, he thought he “looked too thin.”
Karn worked with Tim Allen on “Home Improvement” 30 years ago.
The pair reunited in 2021 for the competition series “Assembly Required.”
Last year, Allen, 71, said that the “Home Improvement” cast “keep talking about” doing a reboot or a spinoff.
“It’s funny, one of the conversations we’ve had recently is how weird it would be if Home Improvement would be about the kids’ kids,” he told the Messenger. “Like if all of them had children, and I’m a grandparent. Home Re-Improvement or something like that. It’s come up.”
However, earlier this year, Patricia Richardson, who played Allen’s wife, Jill Taylor, on the show, denied that she’s ever been in discussions for a reboot.
“It was so weird. I would hear he was coming out publicly and saying this stuff about everyone was on board to do a ‘Home Improvement’ reunion, but he never asked me and he never asked [series co-star] Jonathan [Taylor Thomas],” she said on an episode of the “Back to the Best” podcast.
“I called Jonathan one day and said, ‘Has he asked you about this?’ He went, ‘No,’” the actress added.
In the show, Allen played Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor, the host of a home improvement show and father of three sons.
Allen’s kids were played by Thomas, Taran Noah Smith and Zachery Ty Bryan.
