Much has been made about Aldis Hodge being the best-looking Alex Cross to ever take on the role, but it turns out the star isn’t the only panty-sizzler in the stunning cast.
When audiences tune in to watch the Prime Video series, which debuts Thursday, November 14, they’ll often find him working alongside his detective partner John Sampson who is masterfully played by Isaiah Mustafa.
BOSSIP Sr. Content Director chatted with Hodge and Mustafa ahead of the series premiere to discuss how they developed as a dynamic duo and what they learned about the minds of serial killers while in production as a detective team investigating a murderer on the loose.
Aldis Hodge And Isaiah Mustafa Supported Each Other On And Offscreen Making CROSS
“It’s a true brotherhood what you’re seeing as far as the support you see on the screen that’s reflected off screen it’s sort of a casualty of our real life relationship,” Hodge told BOSSIP.”
“Yeah we had no choice,” Mustafa interjected jokingly.
“We got lucky being able to work with each other on this one, because we do have an equal amount of respect for one another as individuals, as men, as artists and when we step on set, it really is a teamwork effort,” Hodge continued. “When we’re moving through scenes, if we want to add something to the dynamic of the scene or take away or try to find the right sort of tone, we just say, ‘Hey man look I got a thought… I got an idea… How you feeling about this? Boom, boom, boom…’ and then we go because we’re building it together and what we have as just collaborators, you know whenever you step on the set and we just happen to be great collaborators.”
CROSS Stars Aldis Hodge And Isaiah Mustafa Met With Forensic Psychologist Before Shooting
The brotherhood vibes were very real when we spoke with Hodge and Mustafa about the research they did in forensic psychology. Hodge started by joking that as scary as things get onscreen, he and Mustafa were fearless about the challenges they faced.
“First of all, I ain’t never scared OK?” Hodge exaggerated. “I’m out here OK? We outside. There was extensive research done on previous serial killers from real life and I was able to sit back and study and learn about all of these people, in one little bucket. It’s strange the way people are motivated, but at the same time in their world they feel like this is normal for them, so that that was a bit I think unsettling but it’s interesting.”
“We had opportunity together to go visit a forensic psychologist and she spoke to us with another detective a real detective in the room so we got to take notes on that and everything,” Mustafa added. “She had a book that she gave us called The Sociopath Next Door [by Martha Stout, Ph.D.] So that actually opened up my eyes to a lot of things that I wouldn’t have known about just everyday people walking around… like what the thoughts that may be going through somebody’s mind.”
“Did you did you find some things familiar?” Hodge joked, showcasing the kind of ribbing that seemed to confirm the actor’s closeness.
“I found you in that book,” Mustafa returned.
“Yeah, because I think I found you,” Hodge responded.
“I know you found me, I’m on the page right next to you,” Mustafa laughed.
All jokes aside, Hodge and Mustafa are brilliant in CROSS, particularly watching them put together the puzzle pieces left behind by the sociopath at the heart of the Season 1 storyline.
