Who knew perfecting your chicken game was a gateway to love and marriage?
Apparently, Food Network diva Ina Garten’s famous “engagement chicken” recipe can help seal the deal.
A-listers such as Meghan Markle and Emily Blunt have used the juicy poultry recipe to help them get the rock from their men. The “Quiet Place” star, 38, seems to be following in the fowl royal footsteps of Markle, 40, and Prince Harry, 37.
Blunt recently dished that she made the savory specialty when she first started dating her now-husband John Krasinski, 42, in 2008. After a year of courting, they were engaged and married in 2010.
Speaking with iHeartMedia’s River Cafe Table 4 podcast, Blunt said, “I just made something that I knew he would love. That’s it — all it took!”
The “Devil Wears Prada” actress added, “I mean, a roast chicken, who doesn’t love a roast chicken? The roast chicken I love is Ina Garten’s roast chicken, it’s called her ‘engagement chicken.’ When people make it for people, they get engaged.”
Blunt then explained the ingredients for the chicken which included, “lemon, garlic, onions up the chicken, thyme, salt and pepper, all that.”
“You scatter onions around the chicken, but you pack them in really tight into the tray,” she said. “And then you roast them really high for about an hour and 20 minutes and they’re done and they’re perfect.”
“When you take the chicken out, you then kind of sauté in some wine and some butter into that oniony, garlicky mixture. Oh my God, it’s divine. It’s really sticky and yummy,” Blunt swooned.
As for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the lovebirds got engaged shortly after they had a romantic dinner made up of the roast chicken, according to the “Barefoot Contessa” herself.
Garten, 73, appeared on a 2018 episode of “Sunday Today with Willie Geist” where she said the royal couple made her recipe around the time Harry popped the question.
“I do know that she liked to cook my roast chicken, which we call engagement chicken because whenever you make it, somebody asks you to marry them,” Garten told Geist at the time. Geist then said, “So what we’re driving at here is you were responsible for the royal wedding.”
The “Barefoot Contessa” host joked, “Without me, it never would have happened. Isn’t that a wonderful story? How powerful is that?” Garten tweeted in November 2017 after the pair announced their engagement, “Congratulations to Prince Harry and Meghan! I always knew roast chicken had magic powers!! I’m so happy for both of you! @theroyalfamily @meghanmarkle.”
The former “Suits” actress even gushed over the recipe in an interview with Good Housekeeping in 2016. “There is nothing as delicious (or as impressive) as a perfectly roasted chicken. If you have an Ina Garten-level roasted chicken recipe, it’s a game-changer. I bring that to parties and make a lot of friends.”
